How can my teen improve their SAT Math score with less than a month before the test?

Doing well on the SAT is more about knowing the SAT than about knowing math or English. The strict timing of the test is your biggest enemy, so everything we tell students to do in class (showing every single step, for example) isn't something you should do on this test. In fact, having to write things down will only slow you down! The exception to this is on a complicated geometry figure, where you'll need to draw it as quickly as you can onto your paper, because there's no way to mark the diagram on the test.

Here's a few other commonly used strategies:

1.  Personal Order of Difficulty: The test is set up to start with easy questions and to get more difficult as you move on. But what the SAT says is difficult may be what you're best at. Go through the test twice. On the first run do the following:
2. Mark the answer immediately any question that you can work correctly in less that a minute
3. Mark for review any question that you can work correctly but will take more time
4. Mark an answer for any question that you do not even know how to start or know that you cannot do. Do not spend any real time on these questions
5. Go through the second time, working those problems you marked for review.
6.  Plug in the answers: This is especially useful for equations
7.  Plug in random value: When finding an equivalent expression, especially one with multiple variables, assign a value for each variable and find the answer that produces the same value. Warning on this: don't use 0 or 1 for your values, since they have characteristics that can produce false results.
8.  DESMOS: Desmos is a powerful and wonderful tool given to you on the SAT. Learn how to use it, and learn how to enter things quickly into it. Desmos will only work as fast as you can type. It is a good idea to find a tutor just for Desmos if you're not familiar with the program
9.  Read the entire question: This is one of the SAT's favorite tricks. They ask a question that isn't the obvious question. For example: if 3x+2=23, what is the value of 12x? Many students will see the question, work that equation, and mark the answer of 7, but the answer is 84.

There are some great answers here already, and I agree with them. Without being overly repetitive, let me add some spin to a couple of my favorites.

1. One of the most important components of test preparation, in addition to the subject matter, is mental preparation. Develop confidence by using the practice advice given in the other excellent answers. Give yourself the best chance of success by getting proper rest, proper nutrition that suits your style, and make sure that all tools that you bring that allowed while taking the test are in good working order. This way, you can relax, knowing that you have done your best to prepare, and you are ready and confident to do your best work.
2. Make sure you listen to all verbal instructions and carefully read the written ones. Read the test questions carefully. Be aware that standard tests often have hidden tricks and shortcuts to reveal your skills.
3. When applying the "two pass" advice, make sure, for the problems for which you are not confident of the answers, that you don't leave them blank. At the time of this writing, tests like the SAT do not penalize wrong answers. So in the last couple of minutes, take a quick pass and make sure you have left no blank answers. Guess if you have to. Now, rules do change from time to time, so make sure that you confirm whether in fact the test that you are taking has no penalty for incorrect answers before applying this method.
4. One last item: when taking practice tests or doing practice exercises, use a timer. Get used to the pressure of time. Be serious about it and train yourself to stay focused and aware of time management, without feeling stressed. Do a quick mental calculation of how many minutes you have, per problem. Use the multiple pass strategy to gain extra time for the hard problems by saving time on the ones that are easier for you, early on, while you are fresh and working at top speed. With the confidence of having a bunch of questions in the bag, you can confidently re-pace yourself to carefully consider the more difficult problems and get the answers correct. Again, be careful of the rules and make sure that the section you are working on allows going back over past answers.

1) Take a practice test on Bluebook (online) or collegeboard.com (paper) to gauge your baseline score, time management, as well as your strengths and which sections/topics you need more practice with.

2) Watch a few YouTube tutorials on Desmos. Being comfortable with Desmos can save you LOTS of time on challenging graphing questions and problems that require you to solve difficult algebraic equations.

3) Familiarize yourself with test-taking strategies such as backsolve and plug-in if you get stuck. I am also a big fan of annotating the problem, e.g. underlining key information and circling the question so that you can ensure you are answering the question being asked (for example, a problem may ask "what is 2x+5?" and of course a common trap is having the value of just x as one of the answer choices).

4) Take another practice test and watch your score improve!

The key at this point when time is of the essence is to prioritize practicing the most important sections … for SAT Math that would be Data Analysis (Ratios, Statistics, Interpreting Graphs) and Algebra (Linear Equations, Functions, Polynomials) and then use your remaining time to master test-taking strategies (things like time management and using built-in tools).
